When running a business, you need to make the most of your company website. Your website is your market stall and the key to making money. Factors such as Search Engine Optimization, which will direct traffic and potential sales to you site, are vital. However, your site needs to be set up in a professional way in the first place.

Some companies make the mistake of thinking that if the pages are made up of all the colors of the rainbow, that's a ticket to making money. That would be appropriate for an interactive child's site, but not a business. Take a holistic approach and build your site around the colors of your company logo and company literature. Don't over egg the pudding and stuff it full of images. That tends to put people off. Try to make the content easy on the eye. Bear in mind, the purpose is making money and not showing off. Text has a more direct effect, it's easier to access and some people set up their search engines to miss out images anyway.

The number of visitors indicates the potential for making money but hit counters look unprofessional and are not reliable anyway. There are other facilities to do the counting, which give you much more detailed information. If you want to promote the site, give a few impressive statistics in the body of the text.

When starting up, some people think that posting a sign on their site giving a date for when the site goes live on line is a helpful promotion method. Web surfers are not the most patient of people, and aren't likely to bother going back, therefore you won't be making money from them. It's really a waste of time and some search engines won't direct people to something that doesn't exist yet.
