Having started and run my own home business I feel compelled to offer a few observations to you. If you are thinking about starting a home business of your own, please read this article and consider what I have to say before you get started.

First of all, let me tell you that it's going to be hard to make money at first. If you are going to run your business strictly as an Internet business be prepared for stiff competition. Depending on your product line you can also be prepared to spend most of your time getting traffic to your website.

If you do not have a website of your own you are going to need to get one. Having a moneymaking website of your own is one of the keys to success when you run your own home business. There are several reasons for this.

1. Your competition has a website just like yours if you are in affiliate marketing or network marketing. The only way around this is to start your own website and compete with them that way.

2. Having your own website gives you the ability to make changes to it whenever you want to. Using a replicated website you cannot make any changes to it.

3. If you find additional products you'd like to add to your business you can do that if you have your own website. If you are using a company website and cannot add new products to it.

Another thing I would like to mention to you is if you are going to do this part time you have to schedule when you will work and when you won't. Otherwise it is just too easy to come home at the end of a hard day of work and sit in front of the TV, because you're too worn out to spend time on your home business.

One final thing to tell you is you are going to have to invest both time and money if you want to earn money with your home business. Free traffic methods work to a point, but initially it's tough to get enough traffic to start creating profit.

For this reason you are really going to have to consider starting a pay per click advertising campaign to get visitors to your website. As you begin to get more and more visitors you can track how that is converting and how much money you are actually spending on promotion versus what you're earning back in sales.
